Infiniti G35 Project Car

Feb11th

One of the things I have always wanted was a cool project car that I could fix up and really make mine. Over the years I have never done it because I haven’t had garage space, haven’t had time, haven’t had money, or whatever excuse I could come up with. This past weekend I came across an incredible deal on a 2003 Infiniti G35 that I simply couldn’t pass up. What I like about this as a project car is that I don’t need a full shop to do anything and the car is damned near in showroom condition so its not a fixer-upper.

stock-viewSome of the things planned for this baby include:

  • Improved air intake
  • Upgraded exhaust system
  • Tinted windows
  • Rims that better match car color
  • New stereo system (with Bluetooth and Navigation)
  • Billet front grill

Yes, I know the G35 is the middle-aged white-man’s tuner car and guess what, I am a middle-aged white-man so phooey on everyone. This is not a quick weekend project, I plan to have this car for a long time and do upgrades as time and budget allow for them so don’t hold your breath waiting for the next update, they will come as they come.

Photo of the Week: Strapless Model

This was a shot from a recent camera show where I was showing off some lighting equipment. While this image was “ok” by most standards, I want to show you the final result and then the starting image.

photo-1200-2

In the final image the subjects skin is smooth and her eyes pop nicely. However, this is not right out of the camera. The following shot only had the background lightened to match the final image.

photo-1200

In the original image there are a lot of blemishes on the skin. The final image was edited only in Adobe Lightroom using the Smooth Skin and Iris Enhance brushes. These tools can get you super smooth skin by minimizing imperfections making the subject look much nicer.

Getting a good exposure can often be tricky even when your camera’s internal meter is showing the exposure should be correct. If you have a light mete, you can ensure a proper exposure every time.

In this week’s episode I show how to use a light meter to ensure a proper exposure every time. For the example, Kerry used a Sekonic L-358 Light Meter.

We were having some fun during a workshop and one of the models found a real steampunk looking pistol. I really wanted to focus on the gun so I used a Lensbaby Composer Pro with the Edge 80 Optic to create the creamy background blur.

Colorado Wild Animal Sanctuary

IMG_3606Recently we took a trip out to the Denver Colorado area and my wife found this very unique place to go visit where they rescue exotic animals and provide them with a new home. The Wildlife Animal Sanctuary is known for their carnivores, mostly lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) along with a few other critters like wolfs, coyotes, emus, and a few other species. The highlight of the visit is a mile long elevated walkway that provides a great few of the animals while not disturbing the animals This provides a great view from above. If you are out in the Denver area (actually about 50 minutes north of Denver) then be sure and go check it out. We will certainly make another trip out there again in the future.

I love cable cars for some odd reason and always like trying to capture their essence when I am in the area. For this shot I wanted to show a sense of motion while the cable car is being turned around to go back uphill on the other side of the street.

This picture was taken on a road trip through the Rocky Mountain National Park. I had stopped to get some long exposure shots of the water and found this fisherman. What I like the most of this shot is the blurred fishing like coming at the camera. Had you not seen the fishing line the “story” within the picture wouldn’t quite has such an impact.  A faster shutter speed would likely have completely missed picture up the fishing line.

During the show we talk about a wide range of topics from workshops to technique to business. It’s a great show so don’t pass this one up.
