Santiago Canyon Fire Update

img_2604-2.jpgWe went and took a drive through some of the area yesterday. It is pretty mind blowing to see how close to homes and businesses the fire came. Brand new homes in Portola Hills, businesses along Bake, then up along Bake into Foothill Ranch and then east into the wilderness area around Cook’s Corner.

CONTAINMENT: 40%

INJURIES: Five minor injuries of personnel

ACRES BURNED: Approximately 27,630

STRUCTURES BURNED

  • 12 outbuildings were damaged and 8 destroyed
  • 8 residential structures were damaged and 16 destroyed

Here are some more images, although nothing puts this into perspective like seeing it in person. Keep in mind that at one point the actual line of flames was 38 miles long!

Santiago Fire Update

img_2588.jpgThe fires are still raging but fortunately it is now about 12 miles from me but it is now taking out houses up in the canyons. Here is the latest as of this morning with a few pics from around the house.

CONTAINMENT: 50% at the time of this report
CONTROL: Not at this time

FIREFIGHTING ASSETS:

  • 600 Firefighters
  • 110 Engines/Trucks
  • 4 Helicopters
  • 4 Air Tankers
  • 2 Handcrews
  • 2 Dozers
  • 2 Water Tenders

ACRES BURNED: Approximately 19,200

Santiago Canyon Fire

img_2604.jpgIt’s fire season here in sunny southern California. What’s funny is that people who don’t live here think we have problems with earthquakes but its the yearly fires that do more damage and kill more people every year. This one is getting a little close to home though. These pictures were taking about 1.5 miles from my house. This fire is being called the Santiago Canyon Fire or the Silverado Canyon Fire and is burning through wilderness area in Orange County.

10/23 11:30pm Update
Acres burned: 18,000
Cause of fire: Arson (3 spots)
Houses burned: 12
People injured: 0
Containment: 30%

While this is the only “official” arson fire, and I am sure there is a few fires started by things like downed power lines, with over 16 separate fires going on right now, and new ones appearing dozens of miles or more from the closest fire, the only remaining conclusion is that one or more people are driving around starting these up. Since this particular fire started they fire agencies have stopped releasing the cause of the other fires, again, leading me to believe they are all arson related.

Wedding of Brianna and Angel

img_0007.jpgEvery wedding has its unique feel to it and we always make it as fun for the bride and groom as possible even when we aren’t enjoying it ourself. This was certainly not an issue this Saturday with Brianna and Angel, this time they had me laughing so hard I found it hard to shoot at times. It was my absolute pleasure to shoot their wedding that was held at the Hotel Menage in Anaheim. With a family that is so loving and supportive behind them, they have a foundation for lasting success. We wish them the best in their new life’s together. Of the two weddings we had at Esquire Photography yesterday, David chose for me to do this one, I couldn’t have been happier with that decision because Brianna and Angel made it so much fun for us to be there.

Wedding of Katie and Dan

l7wedding.jpgThis past weekend I had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of Katie and Dan alongside my good friend David Esquire from Esquire Photography. The wedding took place at the Muckenthaler Mansion in Fullerton on what had to be one of the most beautiful days I have seen around here in ages. The sky was dark blue, the weather was perfect, everything was done in Fall colors and Katie and Dan were very fun to work with. Nothing beats a great attitude! It made the shoot become one of the smoothest we have been involved in that I can remember. We wish them both of them all the best in their new life. Halloween Preparations

img_0014-2.jpgIf you don’t know me very well, let me explain that I enjoy going a little nuts around the holidays. While my snobby neighbors have spent more on Christmas decorations than I make in a year, I opt to go a little bonkers for holidays like Halloween. The irony is that we get maybe 10 kids to our door every year so doing the decorations is more for us than for the local kids. This year, well….we are going a little over the top.
