Brad Pitt’s Wedding Photos

Brad and I have been friends for a bit over five years now and when I found out he was marrying Mary I couldn’t have been any happier for the two of them. Even better, Brad asked me to shoot his wedding and I agreed immediately. The ceremony took place at a nice venue overlooking the water. The weather was just perfect even if it was just a little chilly. I have lost track of how many weddings I have attended the past few years and having heard more speeches than I care to remember, I will admit to getting a bit misty eyed when Brad’s daughter Hannah gave a speech during the ceremony.

You just have to give both Brad and Mary credit for finding love again with each other. They have actually known each other for 26 years and it just took this much time for the stars to align for them. I wish Brad (yes, his name really is Brad Pitt) and Mary the best in their new life together. Peace my friend!

Sarah and Casey Wedding at Puddingstone Resort

I first met Casey and Sarah on random encounter on a plane flight when Casey asked me about a photography presentation I was putting together. We struck up a conversation and I learned that they needed a photographer for their wedding. Ever since then I have been looking forward to this wedding. So what was different about this wedding than others? The difference was Casey and Sarah! In all of the weddings I have shot I have never had a bride that was so excited, so happy, so bubbly, and generally having so much fun. And Casey..well…he was an incredible groom as well. Super friendly, wildly happy, and obviously thrilled to be marring Sarah. Do they have a secret recipe for success? Perhaps. July 1st, the day of the wedding, actually was the 10 year anniversary of their first date. Certainly nobody can fault them for jumping right into marriage.

The location at Puddingston Hot Tub Resort turned out to just be spectacular with an incredible view and an incredible staff managed by their coordinator Nikki.

Congratulations to Casey and Sarah and best wishes as you begin this next part of your life together.

Professional Photobooks Offer an Alternative to Traditional Photo Albums

Whether I’m shooting an outdoor wedding in an exclusive Orange County location, am working with a manufacturer to capture their products in the perfect light, or am volunteering my time to take family portraits at my local university’s Veteran’s Appreciation night, I’m always thinking about the finished product. After all, it’s the finished product that the client is interested in—the prints they’ll be able to look at and share with others. For years, photographers have been able to offer our clients prints of various sizes, from portable wallet photos to larger 8 x 10 images suitable for framing and displaying. And having done professional photography for a number of years, it’s been fascinating to see how things have changed. As technology has continued to evolve, we’ve been able to offer our clients a wider variety of finished products to choose from.

One relatively recent addition to the photography market is professional photo books. I’ve found that professional photo books give my clients a really slick alternative to the traditional photo album. Photo books can be used to create a keepsake of your wedding day memories, share your daughter’s first year with her grandparents overseas, or even showcase your product offerings in a unique way.

Available in a variety of sizes, and with a choice of covers (including leather and linen), photobooks are an elegant, long-lasting alternative to traditional photo albums. I can also configure your photobook so it has a special image right on the cover, or can even have a custom imprint added, personalizing your photobook even more.

You can find more information on professional photo books over at Nations Photo Lab, one of my preferred labs for prints, photobooks, enlargements and other photo products. And of course, you can contact me if you have any questions about photobooks or you’re just ready to set up an appointment to discuss your photography needs.

Oliver and Sylvia Maier Wedding – Montage Resort, Laguna Beach

While large, loud weddings can be fun at times, I love the small, intimate weddings like Oliver and Sylvia planned for their special day. While it wasn’t a destination wedding for me, it was for them as they are here from Europe. The weather kept teasing us like it was going to rain but it held back until well after the ceremony was over. They couldn’t have picked a nicer location than The Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. The laid back, casual feel of the wedding really fit the day while friends joined them to celebrate their wedding. I want to thank both of them so much for letting me spend the day with them.

Kristen & Jahed Wedding at Lake Mission Viejo

Weddings can be strange things and you never really know what to expect when you show up to shoot one, especially true with Kristen and Jahed as they are very much the Ying and Yang to each other sometimes. Jahed is quiet and softspoken and Kristen is outgoing and often very funny. The wedding took place at Tortilla Flats on Lake Mission Viejo and turned out to be a complete blast. The wedding kept up a fun upbeat vibe and the dance floor was always packed with people. I want to thank them for letting me be a part of it, this was one wedding that I really had fun shooting. Congratulations to Kristen and Jahed!

Ryan and Rachelle Summer Wedding in Yorba Linda

I had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time as I found Rachelle to be so much fun to work with and couldn’t wait to meet Ryan as he has been off serving our country. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the Messiah Lutheran Church in Yorba Linda made for an awesome backdrop to the ceremony. Afterward we headed over to the Alta Vista Country Club where we ran around the course for some special shots and then headed inside where Ross was keeping the dance floor rocking. Now something I have never seen (nor heard of until now) was the Hoedown Throwdown which the wedding party and a number of guests all did during the reception.

Note: The Hoedown Throwdown should be well known to any Hannah Montana fans

Lensbaby Wedding Project

I love the Lensbaby lenses and will pull out the Lensbaby Composer at every wedding to snag a couple of dreamy portraits and will often use it for a few special pics of the rings and details. For a long time now I have wanted to shoot an entire wedding with one as a pet project. What would possess me to use a selective focus (and manual focus) lens to shoot an entire wedding? First off, its a challenge. As photographers we generally do not push ourselves with our personal projects as much as we should. Many have taken up trying to use their cell phone camera but its still all automatic, although you can still work on composition and lighting. Using a Lensbaby on the other hand is all manual. Since the Lensbaby lenses have a small “sweet spot” of sharp focus and the rest has a unique type of blurring to it, focusing is a real challenge. Try holding a camera, adjusting a focus manually, while holding a flash off to the side with one hand and you can imagine how awkward it can be at times.

In talking to a friend of mine, Chris Diset, who also shoots weddings in southern California, we got to talking about our pet projects and when I told him I wanted to shoot an entire wedding with a Lensbaby, he immediately invited me to do it at the next wedding he was shooting.  This is why its great to make friends with other photographers, I would never have tried this for a client that was paying me to get the best images as I knew going into this project that my “keeper ratio” was going to be far below average. In the end, a little over 800 images were taken. The camera was a Canon EOS 50D with a Lensbaby Composer. Most images were taken with the dual glass optic, many of those with the super wide angle attachment, and a handful were taken with the FishEye optic.

Without further ado, I present an Entire Wedding Shot with a Lensbaby.

Sandra and Kaleo Engagement Shoot – Los Angeles

Today I met up with Sandra and Kaleo in the artist district in downtown Los Angeles for their engagement shots. I had never been to the art district and the mural artists there simply do amazing things with cans of spray paint. Next was a quick stop off by the LA river basin followed by some quick pics at the Musicbox.  They were both such good sports today and I can’t wait for their wedding this fall.

Kristi and Aaron Wedding at The Pacific Edge

I don’t know what got into me and somehow I completely forgot to post these images earlier. What a gorgeous day it was for a beachside wedding at the Pacific Edge in Laguna Beach. The house looked awesome and was well-prepped as always by the amazing staff from At Your Service Catering and Corey Morgan assisted as second shooter. Kristi looked absolutely amazing and Aaron looked fantastic. The ceremony may have been a tad bit late, but looked great against the setting sun. If you didn’t see them before, be sure and check out their engagement pictures taken at the location where Aaron proposed to Kristi.
