Winchester 1906 Comes Out of Retirement
May 27th, 2008 by KerryG
My Great Grandfather purchased a 1906 Winchester rifle and used it to hunt for food for his family. Mostly critters like rabbits as it’s only a 22 caliber. This rifle really is over 100 years old and is in perfect working condition. The 1906 was the first model to feature a round barrel instead of the older octagon style. Based on the serial number, this rifle should have been made in 1907 which features the ability to use both 22 short and 22 long loads. Just days before my Grandfather died he called me over to give me the rifle and tell me the story about it so I could become the caretaker of this piece of family history. I have not even removed it from its holder since my Grandfather died about 8 years ago. I wanted to use it to celebrate it’s background in conjunction with my daughter Taylor. We came up with an idea and put together a quick photo shoot. Some of the images can be seen here.
